Greg Adams, a native of Sonoma County, understands the dedication to detail required to grow world class winegrapes. Greg earned his BS degree in Agricultural Engineering Technology at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he actively assisted in developing new university vineyards and where he began developing his love for ocean kayaking.  Moving on to U.C. Davis where he earned his M.S. degree in Viticulture, he was mentored by canopy management pioneer professor W. M. Kliewer.  Greg then spent nearly six years living and consulting in Argentina working with top wineries improving the quality of estate and reserve winegrape sources and developing world class vineyards.  During this period he spent much of his time traveling to France, Italy and South Africa studying and selecting clonal material to be directly imported into Argentina. His expertise in South America caught the attention of Kendall-Jackson who hired him to oversee their vineyard development project in Argentina and assist with the development of their Chilean wine program. 

Having captured the essence of the Argentinian “asado” (or BBQ) Greg returned to California where he joined the winegrowing team at Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa. There he worked closely with winemaker Michael Silacci refining his estate winegrowing skills and helping to produce world-renowned Cabernet Sauvignon wines from this famous district.  From Napa Valley to the Rugged Sonoma Coast, Greg spent five vintages dedicating himself to the cultivation of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay at Flowers Vineyard and Winery.  At Flowers, he focused on developing one of the most unique clonal collections in California and worked closely with estate winemakers, helping establish Flowers as the pre-eminent producer of California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. 

Since 2003, Greg has been working independently as a Viticultural Consultant, sharing his broad range of experience, insight and energy with a few select wineries and growers.   Time spent with Greg will make a firm believer out of anyone who questions whether great wines are made in the vineyard.
